NEW YORK (Reuters) - Actor Heath Ledger died of an accidental overdose
of prescription drugs, including painkillers, tranquilizers and sleeping aids,
officials said on Wednesday.

"We have concluded that the manner of death is accident, resulting from
the abuse of prescription medications," the New York City Medical Examiner's
Office said in a statement. (February 6, 2008)

So sad...why do all the good die young???

It is sad when anyone dies at such a young age.
I think famous or not, death is a part of life.

This could be a reminder to us of how precious each day of
life is.

SAMANTHA SAYS:
Haha, sorry Jonathan, I really don't know
anything about him and I've never seen any of his movies.

What I do know is that anyone who leaves behind a 2-year old
girl due to the fatal consequences of their pursuit of pleasure
has to be a fuckass!

Ahaha sorry, but that's my opinion.

JANICE SAYS:
I just think it's fate. We all have our time to leave
this earth, and it just so happened to be his.

Part of my theory is that the newest Batman movie was supposed
to be what he is most remembered for. And while it is unfortunate
that he is no longer alive...his memory can live on through his art.

R.I.P. Heath!

TRISHA SAYS:
I haven't even really paused to give much thought
to this one yet. It is another tragic Hollywood death to follow so
many others, and certainly not the last (I hate to say, but it's true).

Certain aspects of the business can just eat at a person and, if they're
not strong enough or don't reach out to the right people (or allow those
people to be there for them
), often it leads them to self-destruct.

I don't know about a conspiracy theory in this case since I haven't
looked into it myself...all I can say at this point is that I was always
a fan of Heath.

He had such a charm and down-to-earth quality that really jumped
out from the screen, and I was so very sorry to hear the news when
I did.

Hiya. Yes, I was so shocked, as I would
be anyway but even more so because the Saturday evening
before I was in a pub in a part of London where they were
shooting the last few bits of the Batman movie.

We were told he was there. Me and a couple of friends were
outside havin' a cigerette, and we saw a huge Bentley waiting
so we knew he was coming out of his trailer, but they held back
till we went back inside.

And, then two days later he was gone. I heard it on my radio
Monday morning.

Such a waste.

I've always had a bit of a crush on Heath.

I don't know many of my mates who didn't. He was a cool sexy
talented, and so young so much to live for let's just hope he won't
be forgotten for all these reasons.

A legend at 28. R.I.P. xx

ARAINIA SAYS:
It is an unfortunate side-effect of the entertainment
industry that drugs are so prevalent. I myself, have been keeping up
on the VH1 show Celebrity Rehab, and watching the progress of these
stars as they struggle with their own addictions and personal demons.

It happens all too often that high-profile people gain prescriptions for
every problem in their lives...stress issues, sleeping problems, dep-
ression and anxiety as well as legitimate pain. And when in a prescribed
haze, sometimes forget whether they even took their medication. When
used regularly, people do gain higher resistance to the medications, making
them feel they need to take more and more of the drug to feel it's effects.

We saw videos online showing evidence of a possible drug addiction in Heath
Ledger. Conspiracies happen all the time, but so far, there have been no
reasons put forth to suggest foul play of any kind. If someone had something
to gain or to hide or was passionate enough, conspiracy would be a possibility.

But this just looks--so far--to be a very tragic accidental misuse of drugs.
Perhaps too much in the mix!

He had such a lovely future building. I am saddened by Heath's death and was
looking forward to watching him continue to grow.

Hopefully, this serves as a wake-up call to others to get their lives together!

DANA SAYS:
Well, now we know Heath's cause of death, which
is what I feared to be the cause all along.

The sad thing is, doctors can prescribe all of these medications
legally to one person. It's up to the individual to be responsible for
taking the prescribed doses at the appropriate time. A lot of those
medications unfortunately build up a tolerance in the body, so for
the medications to be as effective, he combined a lethal cocktail.

I'm sure if he knew this could cause his death, he would not have
done so.

This is an very unfortunate death; and a death of such an artistic
talent. A fallen hero. A Shakespearean tragedy.

Ironically, I had watched Casanova twice the weekend prior to his
death. Granted the film is very artistically beautiful, the real eye
catcher was Heath. And not because of his written role, or his looks.

He just had this ability to shine, to light up a room. I kept saying to
myself, god is he a good artist. He was an actor with great integrity,
like Johnny Depp and River Phoenix.

And, his greatness acheived him much success, both monetarily and
popularity, without selling out.

I will miss him greatly.

As an Australian I am saddened to hear of the
untimely death of Heath Ledger, however I feel that it is
far from a consiracy of any type. (Unless of course people
are suggesting that he faked his own death as he had become
disillusioned with the Hollywood 'machine'!)

Sadly, I suspect that this was simply a case of an accidental
overdose of sleeping tablets. People who take sleeping tablets
habitually (due to insomnia) do over time develop a higher
tolerance for the drug they have been prescribed, and often
decide to take more than the recommended dose in order to
achieve the sleep the so desperately need.

I would suggest that this mishap is precisely what happened to
Heath (no more no less!), May he rest in peace.

BRYNN SAYS:
I don't pay much attention to conspiracy theories.
There are definitely a few deaths that make me question, like
Jim Morrison and Marilyn Monroe...but not Heath Ledger.

I think this was a tragedy of huge proportions. From what I read,
he was having a bit of insomnia problems and was fighting with
his own thoughts so to speak.

I don't believe it was suicide, he loved his daughter way too much.

It is a sad, sad loss though. He seemed like a guy who could hang
and get along with everyone and didn't like his celebrity status too
much.

I think he wanted to do what he loved and live a normal life...which
proved nearly impossible.

His talent will be missed.

Hey...well...I think two things. I really
don't know much about the guy, not even tabloid crap.

But I think he was young and did something stupid, like
bought some ectasy and drank alot...mixed a bad cocktail
of things.

Or...because I am a nurse...have seen this...he was born
with some kinda birth defect...like an anurism that burst..

JULES SAYS:
I always think it can sound a bit contrived to
say you are sad about the death of a celebrity that you have
never met.

I mean, would they care if you died? However, I honestly think
that Heath was just coming into his own as an actor, and as a
parent myself, feel sad that his daughter has been left behind.

It doesn't matter how or why he died, its just a tragic waste. I
have outlived him by 10 years and hope to live many more so
that I can see my children grow up.

He has been denied this pleasure.

I lost my own father in '98 and it was tough as I realised my girls
wouldn't remember much about him.

Shawn

SHAWN SAYS:
What an interesting topic, Jon.

I think the conspiracy theories date far back in the history of
dead celebrities...right?

How deep does the Lincoln assasination run? Marilyn Monroe? JFK?
Jim Morrison? Elvis? Kurt Cobain??? Even the controversial rapper
deaths of Tupac and Biggie...and now, Heath Ledger.

I have always entertained the thought that our dead heroes are so
bigger than life...that something even as far deep as our government
would want them...dead!

There's always so many mysteries surrounding death to begin with.
When someone larger than life dies or is killed...the theories are
endless.

I personally like to keep the mystery alive. It makes what maybe a very
uninteresting or grotesque death...well, glamorous.

And let's face it...we just don't want to believe that these celebs that we
idolize could die in such an ordinary way.

Keep the mystery alive...always question...keep life interesting.
